Jan 29, 2007:
Updated to v2.0 with a few bugfixes and refreshments, an the usual update of the default content.
This gown was loosely inspired by the 1998 movie Ever After, starring Drew Barrymore. Both versions pictured here were sewn for wedding clients - the teal and gold version was for the mother of the bride, and the white version was (obviously!) for a bride.
The gown consists of a supportive bodice that laces through metal grommets at the back, and features lace-on gauntlet style sleeves. The skirt is box-pleated onto the bodice, with the majority of the fullness towards the back. It is edged in bias tape and gimp trim. I used a matching or contrasting decorative piping along the neckline - the teal gown has a metallic gold piping, and the white gown has nifty iridescent pinky-cream beads.
The movie gown may have been inspired by these 1495 sketches by Durer, done during his stay in Venice. Since these are adaptations of an adaptation, they're stuck firmly in the "fantasy" category - but would definitely not be out of place at a Renaissance Faire or SCA event.
